In the midst of the night
No shadows play a game
No whispers in the sky
Curled birds in nest of hay
On a branch of a tree
All fast asleep
Except me
Hunger pangs play
Wicked game with me
This is not an hour
It’s too late to eat
Some few hours ago
Had brushed my teeth
Used extra pressure
To clean cavities
I too
Must go to sleep
Through droopy eyes
In line of my vision
I see
Roasted Turkish hazelnuts
Cramp in my tummy
Screams in louder decibels
Craves for crunchy nut
Sweetish bitter hazelnut
Just one nut now
Would do no harm
Pop goes nut into my mouth
Then two, three, four, five
Six, seven, eight
Crunch, crunch, crunch
Thirty nuts disappear
I think I ate
Good God!
Eyes spin wild for something
More to eat,
Short stroll to kitchen
To check what’s in
Jam and bread
Butter, cheese, and ham
Chomp, chomp, chomp
Oh! Somebody stop me!
Good God!
Maybe a small cup of soup will do
With noodles, bean sprouts
Little chicken and eggs
A cup of wine
A ginger ale, perhaps
Burp, burp, burp
Enough!
Good God!
I am done
In the midst of the night
No shadows play a game
No whispers in the sky
Curled birds in nest of hay
On a branch of a tree
All fast asleep
Footsteps on the street
Take a walk with me
